The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan advocates for a comprehensive partnership with JICA

On January 21, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, welcomed a delegation from Japan led by the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Akihiko Tanaka. Discussions centered on expanding practical cooperation and advancing joint initiatives with this prominent international financial institution. The President of Uzbekistan expressed his satisfaction with the visit of the JICA head, which marks a new stage in economic and financial-technical collaboration. He emphasized the agency’s role as a strategic partner in supporting reforms for the development of a New Uzbekistan. The joint project portfolio in various sectors, such as energy, transport, agriculture, water management, healthcare, and education, exceeds $8 billion. Last year, a three-year cooperation program was adopted. The successful operation of the Uzbekistan-Japan Center for Human Development and the Youth Innovation Center has resulted in over 2,500 Uzbek specialists completing training and internships in Japan through JICA programs. Japanese volunteers also contribute to key social and humanitarian projects in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, an agreement was signed the previous day for the construction and equipment of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Neurology and Stroke in Tashkent. The President of Uzbekistan expressed support for expanding JICA’s activities in the country. The discussion highlighted the importance of private sector projects, the creation of a special economic zone for Japanese investors, the establishment of a Japanese university, and partnerships in vocational education. An agreement was reached to introduce new mechanisms for advancing current and future projects based on a roadmap approach.
