The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a conference titled “The International Year of Peace and Trust: Turkmenistan’s Cooperation with the World Community” today. The conference was attended by Deputy-Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of ministries and departments, representatives of specialized structures of the United Nations Organization in Turkmenistan, rectors of higher educational institutions, as well as faculty and students of the institute.

The speakers emphasized that the peace-loving policy initiated by our esteemed leader and continued by the President of Turkmenistan during the Era of Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, is highly respected around the world. In this context, the announcement of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” in the world and in Turkmenistan holds special significance.

It was noted that in order to achieve the goals set for the year, the President of Turkmenistan has formed the Organizational State Committee for holding events related to the announcement of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. Recently, the first meeting of this committee was held under the leadership of our National Leader and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty, Hero-Arkadag.

During the meeting, Hero-Arkadag discussed organizational matters and gave instructions to relevant authorities. He also stressed the importance of consulting with the United Nations’ structural divisions to develop a concept of Turkmenistan’s activities and priorities during the International Year of Peace and Trust, and to implement them.

In this regard, the speakers highlighted the telephone conversation between our National Leader and the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, on January 14, where they exchanged views on priority areas of cooperation and the significance of international events planned to be held in Turkmenistan this year.

As is known, during the telephone conversation, Hero-Arkadag also presented the Secretary General with the basic areas of the corresponding concept. The speakers especially emphasized that the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, recognized the importance of the concept aimed at uniting efforts to address global social issues and fully approved it.

Next, the floor was given to heads of divisions of the United Nations Organization working in Turkmenistan. They noted that Turkmenistan’s firm adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter and its leadership in promoting dialogue, trust, and peace serves as a powerful reminder of how the country can act as a bridge and a force for good in the international community. The principles of neutrality underlie preventive diplomacy and can create opportunities for mediation and conflict resolution.

It was emphasized that the President of Turkmenistan’s initiative to develop a Global Security Strategy, based on the principles of peace and trust, is one of the potential outcomes of the International Year of Peace and Trust. This strategy aims to strengthen conflict prevention based on the United Nations Charter, the recently adopted Pact for the Future, and other UN documents.

The ambassadors who spoke noted that they have reviewed the concept of Turkmenistan’s activities and priorities during the International Year of Peace and Trust, and highlighted that the document reflects Turkmenistan’s views on key issues on the global agenda and its approach to uniting efforts of states based on mutual trust, dialogue, and responsibility.

The heads of specialized agencies of the United Nations in Turkmenistan also discussed cooperation with our country in relevant areas and highlighted the positive results achieved. They expressed sincere gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and our esteemed leader for creating favorable conditions and opportunities for their work in independent Turkmenistan, which steadfastly adheres to the principles of permanent neutrality.

At the end of the conference, “The International Year of Peace and Trust: Turkmenistan’s Cooperation with the World Community,” the participants adopted a message to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
