The Joint Conference of the CIS ATC on Combating Terrorism and Extremism and the International Scientific and Practical Conference of the RATS SCO began their joint work for the first time in Tashkent on September 4, 2024.

The event was jointly organized by the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Anti-Terrorism Center of the CIS Member States, and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO.

The first day of the conferences consisted of a plenary session and three specialized sessions.

The joint international conferences were attended by approximately 250 representatives from competent authorities of 20 CIS and SCO member states, including observer states and dialogue partners, as well as various international organizations, such as the UN, Interpol, EAG, CICA, and others (47 delegations in total).

The opening of the conference included a message from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasizing the importance of this international forum and the shared commitment to cooperation in ensuring peace, security, and stability in the region. The conference also identified key tasks in improving the regulatory framework and implementing joint practical activities within the RATS SCO and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center.

The plenary session was addressed by the Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, A. Azizov, Deputy Secretary-General of the CIS, N. Seitimov, Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO, N. Niyazaliyev, Director of the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO, R. Mirzayev, and Head of the CIS ATC, E. Sysoev. A video message from the UN Under-Secretary-General and Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, V. Voronkov, was also shown.

The speakers highlighted the ongoing challenges and threats in countering terrorism and extremism, noting the need for a united and coordinated effort from the international community. The three sessions held during the first day of the conference involved discussions on various topics, such as assessing threats to security, addressing radicalization, and improving international cooperation in combating transnational crime and drug trafficking.

The participants also emphasized the importance of utilizing inter-parliamentary structures and strengthening educational and research efforts in countering terrorism and extremism.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Service, B. Tursunov, expressed gratitude to the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO and the CIS ATC for their support in organizing the conference. He also thanked the delegations of international organizations, scientists, and experts for their participation and contribution to strengthening international cooperation in combating these threats.

It was noted that these international conferences provide valuable opportunities for exchanging experiences and promoting partnerships between security agencies, international organizations, and the scientific community.

The conferences will continue their work.
