A regular meeting was held by the Surkhandarya region’s territorial election commission to discuss the upcoming elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local councils of People’s Deputies. The meeting, which was chaired by Zebiniso Alimardonova, considered the issue of approving the composition of precinct election commissions.
The meeting referred to articles 20 and 23 of the Election Code, as well as the statute “On Precinct Election Commissions,” which was approved by the Central Election Commission through Resolution No. 1337 on June 5, 2024. It was stated that there are a total of 865 polling stations in the region, with a total of 9,451 people included. The candidacies of commission members were discussed at meetings of district and city Councils of People’s Deputies and recommended for approval by territorial election commissions through the “E-saylov” system. Among the members, almost half are women, and 84 percent have previously participated in elections.
The composition of the election commissions includes 53 percent employees from the public education sector and 47 percent representatives from other government departments, non-governmental organizations, and self-government bodies.
It is estimated that more than 1.6 million voters will participate in the upcoming elections.
