Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva welcomed the delegation led by Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev on his official visit to Uzbekistan. During the conversation, the parties discussed ways to foster cooperation between the two countries, which is rooted in centuries of amicable relations and strong neighborliness between the two nations.
The dialogue focused on the practical implications of the partnership, including the creation of an action plan for 2024 to further enhance inter-parliamentary relations, strengthen cooperation between local councils in border regions, and organize joint events to promote parliamentary diplomacy. Additionally, the two sides discussed the prospects of deepening political dialogue, intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchange, and broadening trade, economic, and investment collaboration.
In the past six years, the trade volume between the two countries has increased sevenfold, with $700 million reported in January-August 2023. Joint initiatives in the automotive, energy, electrical, and textile sectors are currently being implemented. It was noted that there is enough potential to increase the trade volume to $2 billion.
The conversation also touched upon practical matters such as joint efforts to promote transport and logistics capabilities of the two countries and the opening of trading houses in Tashkent and Bishkek. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to work together closely, organize regular visits of parliamentary delegations, and intensify ties between friendship groups and committees of the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
