Strengthening the judicial system

Robakhon Makhmudova, First Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court, met with Christoph Kopecky, Head of the project of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), called “Promotion of legal statehood in Central Asia”.

The discussion focused on the importance of guaranteeing independence of the judiciary in Uzbekistan and safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms, which are the main objectives of the judicial system reform. It was also emphasized that international partners’ assistance is essential.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and other international organizations have implemented a number of activities under the program “Promotion of Legal Statehood in Central Asia”. In the past two years, judges have made several working trips abroad, attended workshops, and taken part in training courses on current issues in judicial law.

At the meeting, it was agreed that the cooperation will continue, which will help to strengthen the judicial system of Uzbekistan.
