In the Samarkand region, there are 326 greenhouses covering 466 hectares where vegetables and citrus fruits are grown. According to the regional Department of Plant Quarantine and Protection, 12 of these greenhouses use hydroponic methods while the remaining 280 use soil-based farming. The main produce includes tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, lemons, mandarins, and greens, which are both exported and sold domestically. The State Phytosanitary Inspector of the Samarkand District Department for Plant Quarantine and Protection, Elyor Ortiqboyev, stated that their goal is to promote the production of high-quality agricultural products in protected environments, increase export potential, and improve protection against pests and insects. In Samarkand district alone, there are 81 greenhouses covering 106 hectares. Quality remains a crucial aspect in delivering these products to consumers, and the department’s phytosanitary inspectors provide necessary consultations and recommendations to greenhouse farmers.
