On Thursday, SK hynix Inc. revealed a third-quarter net loss of 2.18 trillion won (US$1.6 billion), a stark contrast to the 1.1 trillion won profit reported in the same period the year before.
The company stated in a regulatory filing that it had an operating loss of 1.79 trillion won for the July-September period, compared to a profit of 1.66 trillion won the previous year. Sales dropped 17.5 percent to 9.06 trillion won.
The loss was 74.3 percent higher than what analysts had predicted, according to a survey by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data branch of Yonhap News Agency.
