Samsung SDI Co., South Korea’s second-biggest car battery maker, announced on Monday that it had reached an agreement with Hyundai Motor Co. to provide batteries for their electric vehicles over the next seven years.
The two companies have signed a contract for the supply of batteries for Hyundai’s vehicles that will be produced in Europe from 2026 to 2032. This marks the first time the two have entered into such an agreement.
In a statement, Samsung SDI President and Chief Executive Choi Yoon-ho said, “We will do our utmost to help Hyundai further its global market leadership by providing batteries with advanced technologies and superior quality through a long-term partnership.”
The batteries that Samsung SDI will provide are the sixth edition of its prismatic battery, called the “P6”. They will be produced at Samsung SDI’s Hungary plant and shipped to Hyundai’s plant in Europe.
