Samarkand to Host CIS Librarians Forum in the Cultural Capital of the CIS

The Deputy Hokim of Samarkand region, Rustam Kobilov, announced at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Republican “Reading Week” that Samarkand will be hosting the CIS Librarians Forum. This event is being held under the theme “Book-loving nation”. Mr. Kobilov stated that there has been a significant effort in building and renovating libraries in cities and districts, as well as promoting reading among the youth. The regional information and library center has also undergone a major renovation and now has the capacity to serve over 500 readers simultaneously. The center now includes educational halls, a museum exhibition, a multimedia and scientific hall, a recording studio, meeting and discussion rooms, a digitalization sector, and a manuscript restoration and conservation service. The library has also acquired new office equipment, an interactive panel, and modern equipment for events. Additionally, high-speed internet is available and electronic registration and ID card services are offered. Samarkand has been declared the cultural capital of the CIS this year and will be hosting nearly 20 major events by the end of the year. One of these events is the CIS Librarians Forum on May 15.
