The First Uzbekistan – Malaysia Educational Forum on “Opportunities and initiatives in higher education to achieve sustainable development goals” took place during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s official visit to Malaysia. Higher education institution leaders from Samarkand also attended, including representatives from Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. These institutions shared information on their activities, training, and research work, and showcased the tourism potential of Samarkand through presentations and exhibitions.

At the forum, agreements were made to cooperate with higher education institutions in Malaysia. This included signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages and Sultan Idris Education University. The two institutions plan to start exchange programs for teachers and students in the 2025/2026 academic year, as well as organize educational and tourist summer schools for Malaysian students at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages.
