At a meeting hosted by the World Bank in Marrakesh, Morocco, South Korea’s finance minister declared the nation’s commitment to the Resilient and Inclusive Supply-chain Enhancement Partnership (RISE) program, which strives to support developing countries in utilizing their resources and developing eco-friendly industries. The bank reported that the program is designed to “foster more sustainable and diversified global mineral value chains” and offer “higher quality local jobs and economic growth” for developing nations. Analysts suggest that the initiative is intended to reduce reliance on China for essential materials. South Korea, Japan, Canada, and Britain have all pledged a total of over $40 million to the program, with South Korea offering $3 million and Japan donating the largest amount of $25 million.
