Following talks between representatives of the Uzbekistan Embassy in Tbilisi, a Protocol of Understanding was signed with Georgia’s Checkin Travel. The head of the Georgian company, Iya Gedevanishvili, commented that she had visited Uzbekistan multiple times in 2023, exploring its culture, cuisine, and infrastructure, and had been left with a strong appreciation for the country. She expressed a desire to share her admiration with other Georgians, and help to increase the number of tourists to Uzbekistan.
The document outlines plans for collaboration in the fields of tourism promotion, economic trade, and cultural and social exchange. Checkin Travel and Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air have already arranged 33 charter flights from Uzbekistan’s historic cities – Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent – to Tbilisi and Batumi. The agency has also expressed interest in organizing tourist trips to Uzbekistan for citizens of Georgia and other foreign countries.
The two parties have also agreed to hold training sessions for Uzbekistan tour operators, which will allow them to learn from Georgian practices and create an action plan to implement the Protocol’s provisions. UzA
