President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on November 28 to discuss plans to boost the production, processing, and export of fruit and vegetable products. Uzbekistan has 3.2 million hectares of irrigated land, which is used for both food production and raw materials for industry. This year, food exports have increased by $370 million, reaching a total of $2 billion. Uzbekistan is a top exporter of apricots, cherries, peaches, and legumes. However, some regions are not utilizing their full potential for export, and measures will be taken to address this issue. Additionally, initiatives were put forward to increase the production and processing of fruits and vegetables, including introducing shock freezing technology and creating agro-logistics centers and refrigerated warehouses. Efforts will also be made to increase the amount of organic land in the country, as organic products have a higher demand and value on the global market. The meeting also discussed environmental protection, waste recycling projects, and the nationwide initiative “Yashil Makon” (Green Space) which aims to plant 200 million trees and shrubs every spring and autumn. The President emphasized the importance of executive discipline and implementing a system to assess the effectiveness of managers in government organizations. These measures are expected to increase fruit and vegetable exports to $3.5 billion next year.
