The Ichan Kala complex and Nurillaboy palace complex in the city of Khiva were visited by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, along with the first ladies of the two countries. In 1990, Khiva was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List and celebrated its 2500th anniversary in 1997. In 2020, it was declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world and, in 2024, the tourist capital of the Islamic world. The city is home to more than 120 architectural heritage sites and is often referred to as an “open-air museum”. The distinguished guests began their tour at the Ata Darvaza gate and visited various monuments such as the Kunya Ark complex, Shergozi Khan madrasah, Juma mosque, and Tash Khovli complex. A theatrical performance and traditional Uzbek folk songs were also performed in honor of the guests. The tour also included a visit to the Nurillaboy Palace, which was built in the early 20th century and features more than 100 rooms and galleries. The palace was created by both local and foreign artists, incorporating elements of European Art Nouveau style into the design. The Kyrgyz guests were impressed by the stories of Khiva’s rich history and its contributions to science, culture, and art in the region. The tour was covered by UzA and various images were captured of the guests and the historical sites they visited.
