The two-day International Scientific and Practical Conference titled “Innovative Methods and Technologies of Teaching Foreign Languages” has commenced today at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The conference, held in a hybrid format, has been attended by educators, professors, experts, and specialists in the fields of linguistics and foreign language teaching methods from Turkmenistan and over 30 other countries, as well as a large number of students from local universities.

This event, along with the exhibition that accompanies it, has become a significant part of the “Fount of Wisdom Magtymguly Fragi” year, which is dedicated to addressing educational challenges successfully.

It should be noted that as part of the “Revival of a New Era of a Powerful State: National Program for Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052,” the education sector is being systematically modernized to ensure high-quality teaching in secondary and vocational schools, as well as higher educational institutions.

In line with the concepts of digital education and the advancement of foreign language teaching in the country, new methods and pedagogical practices are being actively implemented at all levels of education, from preschool institutions to higher educational institutions.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has placed great emphasis on the importance of young people learning foreign languages, as language is the primary means of communication between people and expressing advanced ideas. In this regard, effective measures are being taken at all levels of education, starting from preschool institutions, to improve foreign language teaching, speech and language skills of students, and incorporate innovative technologies in linguistics into the educational process.

The conference was preceded by a video showcasing the achievements of independent neutral Turkmenistan in science and education.

The forum’s agenda includes topics such as collaboration on priority areas of foreign language teaching, the use of modern methods, the development of student exchange systems, and more.

Speakers at the plenary session noted that the conference serves as an effective platform for establishing new international contacts and contributes to strengthening professional ties and expanding scientific dialogue between Turkmen specialists in foreign languages and their foreign colleagues.

It was also highlighted that joint educational projects with international organizations, particularly specialized UN agencies, are actively being implemented. This is evident from the establishment of UNESCO Chairs and Clubs in higher education institutions in the country. Several secondary schools in Turkmenistan have also been included in the UNESCO Associated Schools network. Additionally, the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan has become an official member of the UNESCO Global Youth Community.

Reports were presented on various topics such as French-Turkmen cooperation in linguistics, methods of teaching English, inclusive practices, and the role of literature in foreign language education.

Speaking about the benefits of such events, guests noted that Turkmenistan places special importance on the development of digital education and the use of innovative methods in teaching foreign languages. They expressed hope for further collaboration with the Turkmen side.

In the afternoon, foreign linguists conducted a master class where they shared their developments in foreign language teaching with Turkmen colleagues and students from local universities.

A special concert titled “Medeniýet halklaryň kalbydyr” was also organized for the participants and guests of the forum, performed by students of the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The conference will continue tomorrow with five thematic sections: “Achievements in Improving Foreign Language Teaching in Turkmenistan,” “Linguodidactic Foundations of Language Teaching,” “Modern Methods and Technologies of Language Teaching,” “International Cooperation in Foreign Language Teaching,” and “Tasks of Language Teaching Methods in the Context of Implementation of the Concept for Improving Teaching Methods of General Education Programs in Turkmenistan until 2028.”

Additionally, a round table discussion is planned to exchange national and global experiences in foreign language education.

A diverse cultural program has been prepared for foreign guests, including visits to the “Magtymguly Pyragy” cultural park complex, “Berkarar” and “Arkaç” shopping and entertainment centers, and excursions to museums in the Turkmen capital.
