Director of the International Institute for Central Asia Javlon Vakhabov and Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilham Tuah bin Illias convened to discuss the current state and future prospects of their relationship within various international organizations.

The two parties exchanged ideas on the implementation of agreements made during the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Uzbekistan in May of this year. This includes strengthening political dialogue and interparliamentary ties, expanding practical cooperation in trade, economics, and investment, implementing humanitarian and educational programs, and increasing cultural and tourist exchanges.

Particular emphasis was placed on promoting the initiative of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create a dialogue platform in the Central Asia plus ASEAN format, taking into account Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship in this regional association of Southeast Asian countries in 2025.

The parties also discussed the potential for establishing an expert dialogue through analytical centers and research institutions to conduct joint applied research on current issues related to the development of Central and Southeast Asia. This would allow for the development of concrete proposals to further expand and deepen their comprehensive relations.
