Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA) Javlon Vakhabov recently met with Sanzhar Mukanbetov, Director of the National Institute of Strategic Initiatives under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic (NISI), in Bishkek.

The NISI Director praised the efforts of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in promoting friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual understanding in Central Asia. This approach has brought the countries of the region together and facilitated integration.

During the meeting, it was noted that this is evident in the resolution of border issues between the two countries, preparations for the opening of an Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan automobile plant, agreements to construct the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, and the progress made on the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project.

To highlight the importance of cooperation between IICA and NISI and pave the way for new initiatives to strengthen the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, the leaders of both institutes signed a Joint Actions Plan for 2024-2025.

The plan includes mutual visits, conferences on deepening strategic partnerships, the adoption of digital technologies in transportation and logistics, potential collaboration on climate change and water security, and consultations for upcoming events at various levels.

The two parties also agreed to organize a cultural evening at IICA in the second half of the year, featuring experts from both countries, to honor the legacy of the renowned Kyrgyz writer, public figure, and diplomat Chingiz Aitmatov.
