The Health Minister has asked medical professionals to cooperate with the government’s plan to raise the medical school enrollment quota, which is currently at 3,058. The government aims to increase the quota by more than 1,000 to provide better health care services and address the shortage of physicians.
“We will assess the capacity and educational capabilities of the schools before implementing the expansion,” Health Minister Cho Kyoo-hong declared during a press conference.
Cho said the government will be in close contact with the medical sector, specialists, and patient organizations to create a comprehensive system of policies for improving local health care services.
“It is the responsibility of the government and the medical sector to safeguard the lives and health of the people,” Cho said.
“We urge the medical sector to take part in negotiations with the government, in response to the public’s strong demand for an increase in the quota,” he added.
