On August 25, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, received Gary Peters, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The two discussed ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, as well as practical cooperation between the countries’ parliaments.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of bilateral contacts and exchanges, and noted the growth in trade between the countries. They also discussed successful cooperation with major American companies and important humanitarian programs.
The primary focus was on developing inter-parliamentary cooperation to support joint ventures in key areas.
The two also exchanged views on regional issues, including the upcoming C5+1 First Summit, organized by the U.S. President on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York City.
