Expanding Collaboration between Uzbekistan and Malaysia in the Fight Against Corruption

A meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur between a delegation led by Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Uzbekistan, and representatives of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The main focus of the discussions was on strengthening cooperation and practical ties in the field of combating corruption. The Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Dato’ Sri Haji Azam bin Baki, and the head of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy, Saiful Ezral Ariffin, were also present at the meeting. New areas of collaboration were explored, such as joint initiatives for public oversight and investigative journalism, which are effective measures for preventing corruption. The discussions also covered the enhancement of Uzbekistan’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2030, incorporating proposals and recommendations from Malaysian experts, as well as training programs for law enforcement officers on identifying and mitigating corruption risks in public procurement processes. The Malaysian side extended an invitation for Uzbekistan to participate in an international conference on “Integrity and Corporate Governance” in July. A signed Action Plan for 2025-2026 between Uzbekistan’s Anti-Corruption Agency and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was the outcome of the meeting, with an agreement to expedite work on the discussed areas of cooperation.
