As part of EXPO 2024 in Shanghai, China, the leadership of Uzatom Agency held a meeting with Wei Fuki, the CEO of National Nuclear Corporation Overseas. During the discussion, they explored the potential for joint projects in nuclear energy and establishing a long-term partnership. The potential projects included expanding capacities for uranium ore extraction, processing, production, and export of high-value finished products, as well as utilizing fuel at nuclear power plants. The Chinese side expressed interest in strengthening bilateral relations in all aspects of nuclear technology, taking note of Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts towards nuclear program development. As a result of the visit, an agreement was made to collaborate with CNNC in the peaceful use of atomic energy, thoroughly examining China’s best practices in constructing nuclear power plants, and studying the suitability of Chinese small modular reactors in Uzbekistan.
