The China National Silk Museum is currently hosting a show entitled “Colorful Asia: Asian Costumes”. This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and displays a variety of cultural artifacts from China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bhutan, Laos, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Syria, Israel, Türkiye, and Palestine.

The display is split into five sections, “East Asia”, “South-East Asia”, “South Asia”, “Central Asia”, and “Western Asia”. It features traditional Asian art and clothing from the 18th to the 20th centuries and has been put together with the help of museum staff from Uzbekistan and Thailand.

The Central Asia section is dominated by items from Uzbekistan, which has been a major trading hub on the Great Silk Road for two millenniums. As a result, the country has adopted the best elements of cultures from all the nations along the Silk Road, forming a unique culture which is featured in over one hundred museums throughout the country.

The show includes twenty objects from Uzbekistan, including chapans, shoes (makhsi), embroidery, and jewelry, sixteen of which are from the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and four from the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan. The exhibition will run until November 12th.
