The “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Chinese province of Shaanxi, celebrated the official opening of the China – Uzbekistan International Laboratory for Scientific and Technical Archeology and the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
The event was attended by Zhao Yide, Party Secretary of China’s Shaanxi province, Chang Jiang, Vice President of the Northwest University of China, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Rector of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, and Rustam Qobilov, Deputy Hokim of Samarkand region.
This major scientific project, initiated by the Northwest University of China and supported by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is located in the Samarkand campus of the International Tourism Academy. It contains two specialized departments for biochemical research and the study of animal skeletons, which have enabled the analysis of archaeological materials found in Uzbekistan.
395 square meters are allocated for the laboratory on the 8th floor of the International Tourism Academy. Northwest University of China has supplied 90 units of laboratory equipment of 36 types, costing 1 billion 587 million UZS. Specialists from the Northwest University of China have been involved in coordinating the laboratory’s construction and equipment installation according to special standards.
At the event, the parties discussed the further development of cooperation, improving the effectiveness of the ongoing project, and defined tasks for the future.
