The Law Society representatives Debra Long and Tríona Lenihan visited the office of the Ombudsman for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which was highly praised for its efforts to expand its powers. Ombudsman Feruza Eshmatova, who was in Finland at the time, participated in the meeting virtually. During the meeting, the guests were introduced to the work being done in Uzbekistan to protect human rights and freedoms, as well as the main activities of the Ombudsman. The representatives of the Law Society of England and Wales acknowledged the special attention given to human rights and interests in Uzbekistan and commended the ongoing reforms in this area. They also noted that the newly revised Constitution of Uzbekistan includes provisions for expanding the powers of the Ombudsman institution. Both parties expressed a desire to establish cooperation and discussed potential projects for the future.
